FORGOTTEN ANGELS
An updated letter of gratitude is overdue for all concerned who continue to open their hearts, lives and wallets to assist Forgotten Angels Animal Foundation/Rescue. Our heartfelt thanks to all who have assisted in the rescue and adoption of more than 170 companion animals since the 1st of the year and to all who made monetary donations which allowed us to provide veterinary care, purchase food and medicine, supplies and equipment. Without the volunteers who assist in the actual rescue & fostering, who help us with the numerous adoption drives and do all the little things no one ever notices, we would not have been able to accomplish any of what we’ve done to date. Please give them a big round of applause...they deserve it! We are extremely grateful to all the veterinarians in the area who continue to assist us in our efforts to provide quality care for the animals we rescue. Without their cooperation and kindness, none of this would be possible.! The newspaper articles and photos have been of tremendous value in getting our message and cry for help out to the people. The Gatesville Messenger has been just wonderful. In spite of the foundation fracturing internally, we are still here and we continue to be active in the community. We are still dependent on the community, the surrounding communities, the still-proud USA and our global partners, who have all given so generously to assist the animals everywhere. One of our initial goals was to change the method of “euthanasia” currently used by the city from car exhaust to lethal injection, a far more humane method. The good news is that I and 2 others in our organization, Stewart Dienst and Helen Fahlsing, have now been trained and certified in the administration of lethal injection. Our grateful hearts give a rousing round of applause to the wonderful folks at Town Lake Animal Center in Austin and the Texas Federation of Humane Societies, who worked out the initial agreement with the city to allow us to administer lethal injection and keep the animals out of that blackened, horrid gas chamber. Unfortunately, with this change comes a need for additional money and supplies over and above what we normally need, not to mention equipment. Since I have covered those needs on our “Wish List/Items Needed” page and the “About Us” page, I won’t go into detail again here. Suffice it to say that we would like very much to fulfill our part of the bargain when the city calls upon us to do so. That, however, will depend on whether we are able to purchase the Fatal Plus, sedatives and other equipment necessary. However, donations are down and with over $5,000 having gone for veterinary care of the rescued animals, we are currently dead in the water. We continue to depend on collection jars placed around town at local businesses requesting “Pennies for Pets...Please Give So They Can Live” and the account set up at Guaranty Bank for monetary donations Unfortunately, our needs are much greater than we had anticipated, much greater than we have collected to date, and we must continue to ask that you help us to reach our goals. There is so very much left to do...and we can do nothing without your continued support. Please spay and neuter your animals and please continue to support our cause. Gatesville is a wonderful place to live...let’s make it a better place for our companion animals, who offer unconditional love and ask for nothing other than our kindness and compassion in return. Our website, donated by Paul Williams, Grammy-award winning singer/songwriter, (http://paulwilliamsconnection.org) and constructed by our dear friend, Sarah Edwards (http://caseysweb.net) remains a constant source of pride to me. Please visit us at (http://Forgottenangels0.tripod.com) Our beautiful logo was created by Shamrock Graphics and was originally used on a sign at our garage sale earlier this year. We liked it so much that we’re now using it on everything. We post available animals on Petfinder, Pets911 and 1-800-Save-A-Pet.com with photos, and work closely with other shelters/rescue organizations in the area to widen our net of wonderful folks willing to adopt these beautiful animals. We now have a Rainbow Bridge/Memorial page on the site, wherein your deceased friend can be memorialized for a minimum donation of $25. Take a look at my 2 friends who are already there. I do from time to time. We hold adoption drives at Wal-Mart in the evenings and on the weekends, providing the weather cooperates. Various fundraisers have been held both in and out of town in an attempt to raise money for the foundation. However, there is never enough and we must continue to ask that you donate generously to the effort. Change has been made and change will continue with your support and encouragement. And so, “with a grateful prayer and a thankful heart,” (Paul Williams, of course) we say hooray for everyone who has and continues to contribute to this cause. We love you and appreciate everything you’ve done. Everyone deserves a standing ovation!!! Matti J. Chandler, Founder & Executive Director Stewart S.
