FORGOTTEN ANGELS
MISSION STATEMENT Forgotten Angels Animal Foundation/Rescue (A 501(c)3 nonprofit organization) believes that animals, as living creatures, are entitled to a quality life, with respect and compassion. Since humans are responsible for having domesticated animals, we have a moral and ethical obligation to care for the animals, especially those we have domesticated who are abandoned, unwanted, or otherwise in need. We want to instill in our community an awareness of all the animals whose lives we share, to promote and encourage responsible pet ownership and to stress the importance of spaying/neutering of all companion animals. ABOUT US We are a 501(c)3 non-profit service organization set up in an attempt to change the method of “euthanasia” from carbon monoxide poisoning to lethal injection and assist the city of Gatesville with improving conditions at the local animal pound. The current method of “euthanasia” is to deliver “filtered and cooled” car exhaust to a cement block gas chamber via an old fire hose attached to the tailpipe of an out of service police car. Gatesville is located in Coryell County, TX, which is quite literally in the heart of central TX, app 40 miles west of Waco in a triangle with Temple, Killeen and Waco. We are a rural county with approximately 74,978 residents, (according to the 2000 Census). Based on that population figure, the carbon monoxide method is considered by the state of Texas to be legal. Although this method of “euthanasia” is legal based on the population of the county, we do not agree that it is a humane method of euthanasia. To this end, we now have 3 people in the organization who have been trained and are certified to administer lethal injection as a more humane method of euthanasia. 20 hours of training were completed under the direction of Dr. Butch Johnson, Staff Veterinarian at Town Lake Animal Center in Austin , TX . during the last week of May, 2002. Our most important long-term goal remains the opening of a “no-kill” shelter for adoptable companion animals, where they will be safe from either type of euthanasia. To date, we have rescued and adopted out over 170 cats and dogs, both from the pound and through community rescue or owner-relinquish. We are currently operating Forgotten Angels out of our home, with some 14-20 cats and 5-10 dogs at any one time. As you can probably surmise, we are in dire need of our own facility. Our immediate concerns are to provide comfort and care to the animals we are currently “re-homing” in order that they will be more adoptable. We are always in need of supplies such as food for both cats and dogs; disinfectant solutions with which to clean the kennels and cat crates; cat crates and playpens; dog kennels and dog runs; igloo-type dog houses to provide shelter; scoopable cat litter, covered litter boxes, medical supplies...the list goes on and on with a constant stream of needy animals on a daily basis. (For more detailed information regarding items needed, please see our “Wish List/Items Needed” page.) We are now in need of funds to purchase necessary equipment and supplies in order to implement the administration of lethal injection. We need an examining table, squeeze gate, snares and restraint cages, special heavy leather gloves to handle fractious animals, leashes, double-locking medicine cabinet in which to store the Fatal Plus, funds to purchase the Fatal Plus and sedatives needed for some of the more fractious animals. We need to purchase capture nets, animal control poles, pole syringes, etc. Again, the list goes on and on while the funds dwindle due to the day-to-day care of the animals and necessary veterinarian expenses to ensure the health of our animals. We still have a fund set up at a local bank for monetary donations and can also accept monetary donations via credit card online through PayPal. If you would care to make a donation so that we will be able to begin lethal injection euthanasia when the city calls on us, or if you would care to make a donation to keep our foundation operating in order to continue rescuing and adopting out companion animals, please send to: Forgotten Angels Animal Foundation Guaranty Bank and Trust/Extraco Banks PO Box 719 Gatesville , TX 76528 We are affiliated with J-B Wholesale, PetsMart, Cattoys.com and Dogtoys.com, wherein if a purchase is made through the link on our site, we will receive a small commission on each purchase. A "Rainbow Bridge" memorial page has been created on our site to honor those who have crossed that bridge and are no longer with us.
